A unique production process

The TotalEnergies Fluids unit in Bayport, TX employs advanced HDA technology (Hydro De-Aromatization) and narrow cut fractionation to manufacture world class high purity special fluids. Our production capacity in the United States enables TotalEnergies' Special Fluids division to deliver the products our clients need, when they need them.

The Bayport HDA plant is a “specialties refinery”: it produces a wide range of high value-added hydrocarbon fluids. It implements state-of-the-art technology and operates non-stop (24/7).

The production process is broken down into two major stages:

  • High pressure hydrogenation which completely saturates aromatic molecules and produces products with very high purity
  • Narrow-cut distillation that delivers fluids tailored to client requirements in terms of flash point, viscosity, pour point and solvency power

More than 40 specialty hydrocarbon fluids are produced by the Bayport HDA facility. These products are used across a wide variety of industries including, but not limited to, mining, drilling and fracking, crop protection, water treatment, printing inks, paints and coatings, and cosmetics.

From procurement to shipping

Our production plant processes highly refined hydrocarbons that are sourced primarily from TotalEnergies' US refinery at Port Arthur. Feedstocks are transported to the facility by barge, and finished products are then shipped to our customers:

  • By road
  • By sea
  • By rail

Safety and the environment

Safety is one of TotalEnergies' core values. From occupational safety to process and transportation safety, it concerns our own employees, as well as those of our partners.

Special Fluid products are extremely pure, thus delivering significant advantages in terms of environmental impact and health.
